FEDERAL

• Joint submission with Multicultural Mental Health Australia on the topic of international student mental health.
• Meeting with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to discuss ways to where the Government could improve communication with international students.
• Meeting with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship as a part of the International Student Welfare Steering Group.
• Meeting with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship regarding changes to General Skilled Migration and the way forward.
• Meeting with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations regarding information provision to international students.
• Meeting with the then Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd and Prince William of Wales at the Australia Day Reception.
• Meeting with the Australian Human Rights Commission as a part of the Human Rights Roundtable.
• International education Expert Reference Group.

STATE

• Participation in the International Student Care Service Reference Group meeting with Government stakeholders.
• Safety Forum with the Chief Police Commissioner, Simon Overland, where AFIS presented international student issues. Subsequent media coverage included The Age, SMH and various overseas media.
• Meeting with the Minister for Education regarding international students.

• Participation in the Monash University Vice-Chancellor’s International Student Summit.
• Meeting with Monash University student advisors regarding AFIS’ work and contribution to the international student community.
• Meeting with UniMedia regarding international student issues.
• Meeting with Victoria University regarding the George Thinkbefore initiative (a creative alternative to communicating international student safety).
• International Student Police Reference Group – North West Region.
• Participation in the International Student Security Book launch.
