Many international students across Australia have been left in a state of uncertainty since the release of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship's revised skilled occupation list (SOL).

The Australian Institute of Criminology is undertaking a research project on the safety of international students in Australia. The project will compare the rate of crime against international students with the rate of crime against the broader Australian population.

On 17 May 2010, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, announced the list of occupations included in the new Skilled Occupation List (SOL). The introduction of a new list of occupations is part of a package of reforms that reflects the Government's commitment to a labour market demand-driven Skilled Migration Program.
