General Description

Welcome booth volunteers are trained volunteers who will be working at a booth at Melbourne Airport approaching and welcoming newly arrived international students, providing them with information and assisting them with immediate questions. The volunteers will offer Welcome Packs to the international students as part of a friendly service to begin their education journey in Melbourne.

Volunteers provide their services of their own free will and without financial payment. The City of Melbourne and the Office of Knowledge Capital will be running a 5 day Welcome Booth Event at Melbourne Airport and are looking for 50 enthusiastic and committed, local and international student volunteers to volunteer in the program for one day between February 16th and February 20th, 2009.

    Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend a one day training program
  • Maintain a high level of customer service in a responsible, dependable and courteous manner.
  • Be available for at least one day at the Welcome Booth
  • Respect other peoples views and values
  • Respect the authority and decision making of the Office of Knowledge Capital/City of Melbourne staff
  • Comply with all procedures and policies of the City of Melbourne

    What Is The Time Commitment?
  • Duration of each shift is 8 hours plus a 15 minute briefing before the shift begins.
  • Each day will have two shifts 6am – 2pm and 1.45pm – 10pm (these times are set to meet the peak arrival times for international students)
  • Each volunteer will be asked to attend at least one shift, any more than one shift is optional, and volunteers will be able to nominate preferred shift times.
  • Each volunteer will be required to attend a one day training event. What Will I Get Out Of It?

  • Free transport to and from Melbourne Airport

What Are The Training Requirements?

All International Student Welcome Booth Volunteers must attend a one day training event on either Wednesday February 11th or Thursday February 12th, 2009 at the City of Melbourne.
